The movie opens with two main characters that we already know are intended to be together. It sets up an absurd series of misfortunes to ruin their relationship. Gordon is incredibly devoted to Sophie. Famous chef Ruby Collins invites Sophie to an interview for a position at her planned upscale restaurant in Quebec City. It’s a tempting alternative because Sophie would be going back to her hometown, where her family still lives.
