Society of the Snow 2024

The survivors of the Miracle of the Andes also known as Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 are the subject of the novel Society of the Snow. The Old Christians rugby club’s players, supporters, and relatives organised a plane trip from Montevideo Uruguay to Santiago Chile in 1972. But the jet would never reach its goal because of a mistake made by the pilot that caused it to crash into the steep terrain that he was trying to avoid. The outcome was a spectacular and terrible crash sequence that left the surviving survivors stuck in a winter environment for which they were unprepared.
