The Black socialist activist Bayard Rustin is the subject of the historical biographical drama Rustin. Rustin advocated for social change, desegregation and economic equality through nonviolent protest and demonstration. The movie, which was co-written co-directed and co-starred by gay Black men, is centred on how Rustin, a gay man, was shut out of the civil rights movement. orchestrated and executed the Summer March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963. Though not as much racist violence as in many other civil rights films, there are a few scenes in which Black or integrated groups are pushed, yelled at, or attacked by police.
